Trillion-shaped larimar is set in a hand-fabricated setting of sterling and fine silver and surrounded by dozens of tiny effervescent silver bubbles. This beautiful blue stone complements a wide array or outfits from jeans and a white shirt to a little black dress and segues effortlessly from day to evening.
Measures 3/4″ wide by 1-3/8″ long.
Larimar is a rare blue variety of pectolite and is found only in the Dominican Republic. It is mined in a mountainous area in the province of Barahona. The name larimar was creted by Miguel Mendez, who combined his daughter’s name, Larissa, with the Spanish word for sea, mar.
Larimar’s color ranges from white to deep blue, light blue and blue-green. The more intense the blue and contrast within the stone, the more rare and higher quality it is. Sometimes larimar contains reddish or brown spots, caused by oxidation of iron within the matrix of the stone.
